I bought an acre of land so I could grow my own vegetables and herbs. The stuff you buy in the grocery store these days is garbage. It has no taste. Vegetables are bred so that they will transport with a minimum of damage and will look good on the shelf once in the store. Taste does not seem to matter. People who did not grow up with “real” vegetables have no idea what they are supposed to taste like so they simply accept what they see on the store shelves.
I like heirloom, open-pollinated vegetables that have some taste to them. Tomatoes that are so acidic they blister your mouth and watermelons that taste like you are eating a bowl of sugar. In that you can’t buy such vegetables in stores, I bought an acre of land so I can grow them for myself.
In addition, I can also save seeds for next year to give away to those who want to grow a garden. Hopefully, they will save a few of their seeds to give to others and the gift keeps growing.
